WC AUGUST 19.

Had an exciting day on Tuesday when I went to Chichester to interview two top actors – HENRY GOODMAN and WILLIAM GAUNT. Both are in The Resistible Rise of Arturo UI and were in fine form and such a pleasure to meet. The play is stunning and one of the best I have seen in recent years.

Much closer to home, I nipped down to Shanklin Theatre on Thursday to interview one of their young stars from the Best of the West End show, SINEAD MATHIAS, who has already appeared in a new West End musical. A lovely young lady and one who deserves to go a long way.

I had a good Friday evening at St Saviour’s Church, Shanklin, when I was their Castaway Choice and interviewed by the very talented young Islander, Chris Browning. The audience seemed to like it and over £200 was raised from a retiring collection, towards two Island charities.

It was a busy week. I went to Robin Hill on Saturday night to help welcome the punters who had come to see IW Radio’s Cinema Under The Stars. Les Miserables is a great movie and I enjoyed it for the second time. It came in very cold and, sadly, a few left early as they were just too chilled. It always pays to take a lot of warm clothing. Whilst I sat there in a sweater and top coat, I thought to myself only Brits would do this – and enjoy it.

On Sunday night I went to Shanklin Theatre to see Footloose, from the Ventnor Theatre Group. My daughter was the head of wardrobe on a professional national tour and in the West End, so I knew the musical very well. The Island amateur group need to be congratulated for an excellent production, with one or two outstanding young Islanders in their ranks.
