WC SEPTEMBER 9.

I had a very successful Monday – after catching an early Red Jet to beat the Bestival crowds returning to the mainland. I had an early afternoon interview at the London home of Tony Benn, whcih proved both enjoyable and successful. He was a good host and we had fun fun. Then it was off the the West End to interview Katie Melua later in the afternoon. It was the third time I had met Katie and, as ever, she was charming and very professional. Her latest album, Ketevan, is superb and likely to be a hit. When I arrived back at the Red Jet, around 7-40pm, there were still many still coming back from the Bestival.

Had a fun afternoon on Wednesday when I went to the Parish Hall, Ryde, to talk to the Ryde Afternoon Ladies Circle. They seemed to like my Chatting Up The Stars routine.

Had two shocks on Friday – the news of Karen Eeles leaving the Hospice – what an error of judgement this is likely to prove – and the other sad news that Tony Benn had been taken to hospital and his Shanklin appearance had been cancelled. I wish him a speedy recovery.
