WC JULY 28.

It’s been a week of catching up with correspondence, editing and planning future radio shows and Beacon interviews. At present obtaining interviews with famous people is tough. This is partly due to the increase in telephone interviews, which I don’t undertake, and the lazy questions and answers features which, for some reason, seem so popular. I don’t even read any of them. Lazy journalism.

Had a brilliant night at the Medina Theatre on Thursday night watching Al Stewart in concert. It was superb and the 200 people went away delighted – with the exception of four people who left after a few minutes because it was too loud. One was a very well known Islander. I must remember to whisper the next time I meet him!!

The week ended with the sad news of the death of my mentor – the wonderful journalist and editor Keith Newbery. He gave me a chance in 1975 and my life was to change for ever. I owe any success I have enjoyed, since then, to Keith. Life won’t seem the same without him. A very proud family man, too.
