WC JUNE 28

On Tuesday I recorded an at home interview with the Island’s Brian Marriott, well known as a talented former footballer who played for England and more recently a gifted publicity designer and glass art creator. A fascinating story that includes early memories of local Island life. Listen out soon for him soon on John Hannam Meets on IW Radio.

On Wednesday night I dashed from Yarmouth, via Godshill, to see the latest Kevin Wilson play in Ryde. Just made it in time and I did enjoy Wake, which was very much an ensemble piece – and very thought provoking. I was particularly impressed with a young actor I had never seen before – Peter Raftery. Look out for him. Made such an impact in a supporting role. All the cast made vital contributions. It was all over in an hour and the cast got a great reception from a large and enthusiastic audience at the impressive Depozitory.

I had a marvellous evening on Thursday at the Cowes Marina when we attended the annual Isle of Wight Radio’s Local heroes Awards sponsored by Wightfibre. It was a night to remember with some particularly emotional awards that affected everyone present. It was brilliantly hosted by Paul and Emily and the food was the best-ever at this event. Congratulations to everyone who was involved and the deserved winners.

With my daughter Caroline home for a few days, within her hectic schedule, it was a week to enjoy. ‘Dad’s taxi’ came in handy, too. Just like the old days – and it’s always a pleasure.

On Saturday night it was the 25th anniversary party of IW Radio at Moocow, Cowes. For someone who does not really enjoy parties, it really was a delightful evening. Being a non-drinker, I always feel a little lost at parties but the others all kept me entertained with some real fun. The company was excellent and the ‘old man’ of the station was glad he went.
