WC June 19.

It was quite an amazing evening at the Quay Arts Centre, Newport, on Wednesday night. It was billed as Paul Armfield Meets John Hannam. It was such a hot night, which meant there was not a huge audience, and many were unable to attend, due to other engagements. The response to the evening was quite amazing, thanks to Paul Armfield. Apparently, I talked more about my life than ever before. Paul did a super job. I can’t get over how much people enjoyed it. I even managed to tempt Paul and local pop legend Brian Sharpe, who came to see the show, to team up for a couple of songs. These were completely off-the-cuff and they borrowed guitars that were at the centre to perform. What a bonus that was!

We went to La Cage Aux Folles at the Mayflower, Southampton, on Thursday afternoon. It was the first time I had ever seen this multi award-winning show. I loved the show – and in particular Adrian Zmed, as Georges, Samson Ajewole, who was superb as Jacob, and the glorious Marti Webb as Jacqueline. We were both so hugely disappointed with John Partridge, as Albin. Neither of us had any empathy with him at all. I wish I had seen the late Danny La Rue in the role. I could see why the show has won so many awards in past years.
