JOHN SADDENED BY DEATH OF KENNY LYNCH

John was so sad to hear of the death of Kenny Lynch. John first met him in the summer of 1981 when he was in the Jimmy Tarbuck summer show at Sandown Pavilion. Kenny was interviewed by John and  he even made a Saturday appearance at a Godshill Cubs event. He came back in 1989 to join Tarby in another season at Sandown. The Pavilion fire meant it transferred to  Shanklin Theatre. In more recent years John travelled up to High Wycombe,  near Kenny’s home , to talk to him. As ever, he was in great form.

“Kenny was so much fun to be with and was such an under-rated singer. We had some great times during his summers on the Isle of Wight. Particularly when he and Tarby were together. I interviewed him three times and it was such a pleasure. I am delighted to have all his records. He was such a one-off. He was a genuine all-round entertainer. Back in 1989, backstage at Shanklin Theatre, he told my daughter Caroline that one day he was going to marry her. ”

There is a chapter on Kenny in John’s book called Pop Stars of the 50s, 60s and 70s. This is still available to buy.
