WC JULY 2.

Having completed 14 interviews in 13 days, for once, I was hoping for a quieter week. I had just two scheduled, Marti Webb and Dave Willetts, two long-term friends, currently starring in the tour of 42nd Street. It’s always a pleasure to chat to them and Wednesday, in between shows at Woking, was no exception. Two great and talented people. 42nd Street is at the Mayflower from October 2 to 6th.

Went to Porgy and Bess on Thursday at the Mayflower. Met an old friend and his partner coming back from the matinee as we headed to the evening show – and I could tell they had mixed feelings and did not know it was an opera. It was a great visual spectacle with two outstanding singers but I found it a little hard to concentrate on the performers and follow the words on the electronic device above the stage.

Went to the Apollo, Newport, on Friday night to see one of the biggest shows I had ever seen there – Gypsy. It was too long at just over 3 hours but, other than a never-ending first half, there was so much to enjoy, with some quality acting from both the proven actors and some exciting youngsters.

I had fun on Thursday afternoon when I was the guest speaker at the Godshill Sunshine Club. It was just as well I took my girlfriend – otherwise I think an offer might have been on the cards!!!
