John was completely shocked and saddened by the sudden death of his real old friend Brian Greening. They had some great banter together over the years and enjoyed each others company. John has made these comments about him.
“Brian was another unique one-off. He was a brilliant footballer in his day and scored hundreds of goals. He wrote some superb books about Island life and amused so many with his talks with Bill Shepard.
“Brian had such a sarcastic wit which we loved him for. He could dish it out but was delighted to get it back. He also played up to his name of ‘Grumpy’, given him by another past Island gem, the late Keith Newbery. His unexpected death has hit so many people.”
